Staring Straight Into Creation
Photographs by Camille Seaman
|Soulcatcher Studio is proud to present a dynamic new body of work by renowned photographer, 2013 TED Senior Fellow and 2013 Stanford University Knight Fellow, Camille Seaman. Seaman (Shinnecock Tribe, b.1969) is an Award-winning American photographer who became best known through her evocative Polar images. Capturing the essence of awe and beauty of indigenous cultures and environments, in a sophisticated documentary/fine art tradition is her trademark.
The images within this exhibition are the fourth installment in the continuation of The Big Cloud project. They were captured during multiple storm-chasing trips made throughout the American midwest, during the summers of 2013 and 2014.
Seaman started photographing the sky in a continued effort to, in her words, “illustrate the interconnection of all life on Earth.” She further states, “When I was a little girl, my grandfather took me to sit outside in the sun on a hot summer day. There were no clouds in the sky. I started to perspire, and he pointed up and said, “Look, do you see that? That’s part of you up there.”” That moment stuck with Seaman, and perhaps was the genisis for this project. She states, “Storm-chasing is a very tactile experience. The colors in the clouds, of hail forming, the green and the turquoise blues. The movement, the way they swirl – As I stand under them, I understand what I have the privilege to witness is the same forces, the same process in a small version, that created our galaxy, solar system, our sun, this very planet.”
