Women Empowered – homiara

Homiara, 40
Kabul, Afghanistan

After her husband died during the Mujahadien fighting, Homiara fled to Pakistan to secure an education for her daughters. After the fall of the Taliban, she returned to Kabul to find her former house demolished. To support her daughters’ schooling, she persisted in securing income through the CARE poultry program. I was impressed by Homiara’s fervent dedication to her daughters’ education; when I asked her what she hopes for the future, she said she wants to see her children educated and living a good life. “I am very hopeful. Before, women had to hide their faces and could not work. Now, I feel very positive about the future.”
