Women Empowered – humaria

Kabul, AfghanistanHumaria sells eggs as a street vendor to help her family survive. As with many families in Afghanistan, years of war have left them very poor. Only half of all Afghan children ages 7 to 13 attend school and typically boys are chosen over girls. When the Taliban came to power, education for girls came to an end. In 2003 CARE began the Out-of-School Girls Project, a program designed to help girls ages 9 to 14 catch up on the education they lost and rejoin the mainstream education system.

There are hundreads of cultures around the world and many of them are loosing their ancestral identity. Roberto Falck has been shooting professionally for more than ten years and has traveled the world capturing portraits of people from these cultures endangered by this inevitable change. With a long term project, Roberto wants to create a visual record of as many of these cultures as he can to preserve their image and their memory in a graceful and beautiful photographic way.
